Election Day is the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in even-numbered years. In order to be eligible to vote in an election, you must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, a resident of the State of Minnesota for at least 20 days, and properly registered. You will save time at the polling place if you pre-register to vote. Visit mnvotes.org to see if you are already registered to vote.
If you are not registered, you can complete the Voter Registration Application at the mnvotes.org or the Secretary of State’s website. If you prefer, you can complete a paper application by contacting the Chisago County Elections to register by mail. Pre-registration must be completed at least 20-days before an upcoming election.
If you wait until Election Day to register, you must prove you live in Center City by showing your Minnesota driver’s license or ID card. If your current address is not on your license or ID card, you must provide a utility bill that shows your name and current address in the precinct. Utility bills that can be used include gas, electric, water, cable TV, solid waste or sewer bills. You may also verify your residency by bringing a registered voter from your precinct to vouch for you.
You can vote early with an absentee ballot at your local elections office. Some cities and towns also offer in-person absentee voting. If you are not registered, you can do so in person if you show proof of residence (utility bill with current address).
Absentee ballots are available 45 days before an election. Chisago County handles all of Center City’s absentee voting. Residents wishing to vote absentee may get more information on the process by visiting Chisago County’s website or by calling Chisago County Elections at 651-213-8500.

A caucus is a local gathering, run by volunteers, where voters openly decide which candidate to support. Caucuses give us the chance to get involved and to influence a party’s platform. Most states hold primaries but Minnesota uses the caucus system. Find your caucus location.
The City of Center City adheres to rules and guidelines outlined in the Minnesota Elections Laws. Center City government consists of a Mayor and four Council Members. The term of office for Council member is 4 years, Mayor is 2 years. City elections are conducted in the even numbered years with terms of offices staggered every two years.
You may file to run for office at Center City town Hall. For more information on filing for office, from the federal to local level, can be found below.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR MAYOR & COUNCIL MEMBER:
- Candidate must be an eligible voter in the State of Minnesota
- Candidate must be a resident in the City of Center City
- Candidate must be 21 years of age at the time the Oath of Office is administered.
VOTING DATES
- Presidential Nomination Primary Election: March 5, 2024
- Primary Election: August 13, 2024
- General Election: November 5, 2024

Polls open at 7am and close at 8pm at City Hall located at 300 Center Ave, Center City, MN 55012. Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact Center City Clerks Office at 651-257-5284.
Election judges are always needed, either in Center City or in the surrounding area. This is a perfect opportunity for residents to meet new people and participate in an exciting election process. If you are interested in serving as an election judge, please call 651-257-5284. Training for election judges is required and provided through the County Auditor’s office, in-person or online.
